There is no doubt that there are various ways which are used in stories in order to arrange and organize the information. It is common to encounter stories which are told chronologically when we investigate the roots of the word "chronological". We see that "chrono" means time and "logical" means order. As readers, we see the example of the use of chronology in one of the shortest tale of Edgar Allan Poe. In this story, there is a connection between life and art which is demonstrated by Edgar A. While writing or narrating stories, the stories passing chronological order or that the events develop from past to the most recent. Moreover, it is a process constructing actions and developing plots. This manner of a structure is also called time or linear order. For instance, The Oval Portrait written by Poe includes a good example of chronological order. All events have an order and their emergence affect each other. Flashbacks which show a part of past events of the characters are used bluntly by Edgar A. Poe. Actions of the tales deal with current situations and the future. Poe uses some examples of foreshadowing which gives clues about future throughout the story. Briefly, it is not likely to consider a mixture of past and future and the events take place in the progress of time.
        How to use chronological order?
Most writers use the order in their stories to show the process of the story such as how to do or how to occurs. It is a method which organizes the events and creates a more clear plot line for readers. Therefore, reading a story is getting easy and straightforward with the order. Generally, authors use time-order words such as "first, second, next, then, and finally" to ensure their plotline more obvious. The time order is lined up all facts into a logical format. As an example, in The Oval Portrait time order is shown in the chronological order. Firstly, the story begins in a big chateau. A young man and his valet arrive at that place. Secondly, the man finds a book which describes each of the portraits in the room which is dark and includes lots of portraits. Then, he reads a part of a beautiful young lady. Finally, we figure out the reason for the death of that lady.
         Why chronological order is essential?
An explicit and exact order help all readers for understanding the cause and effect of stories. If there were no actual time order in "The Oval Portrait" it could be confused us. Because it is a story within a story. It means that there are two stories and story insides another story. It is a technique to prepare the readers' attention to the real story. The events of the second story are not written firstly. Thanks to chronological order, the reader can figure out the topic simply and clearly.
Consequently, "The Oval Portrait" is a coordinated tale that displays life and art. I strongly believe that everything includes a balance between our duties and desires.
