        There is no doubt that there are various ways which are used in stories in order to arrange and organize the information. It is common to encounter stories which are told chronologically when we investigate the roots of the word "chronological". We see that "chrono" means time and "logical" means order. As readers, we see the example of the use of chronology in one of the shortest tale of Edgar Allan Poe. In this story, there is a connection between life and art which is demonstrated by Edgar A. Poe. It is necessary to know what chronological order is, how to use chronological order and the essential of chronological order to able to understand Poe's stories better.

         What is the chronological order?

While writing or narrating stories, the stories passing chronological order or that the events develop from past to the most recent. Moreover, it is a process constructing actions and developing plots. This manner of a structure is also called time or linear order. For instance, The Oval Portrait written by Poe includes a good example of chronological order. All events have an order and their emergence affect each other. As an example, in The Oval Portrait time order is shown in the chronological order. Firstly, the story begins in a big chateau. A young man and his valet arrive at that place. Secondly, the man finds a book which describes each of the portraits in the room which is dark and includes lots of portraits. Then, he reads a part of a beautiful young lady. Finally, we figure out the reason for the death of that lady.

         Why chronological order is essential?

 An explicit and exact order help all readers for understanding the cause and effect of stories. If there were no actual time order in "The Oval Portrait" it could be confused us. Because it is a story within a story. It means that there are two stories and story insides another story. It is a technique to prepare the readers' attention to the real story. The events of the second story are not written firstly. Thanks to chronological order, the reader can figure out the topic simply and clearly.

         Consequently, "The Oval Portrait" is a coordinated tale that displays life and art. I strongly believe that everything includes a balance between our duties and desires. When everything is taken into consideration, a very famous American writer Edgar Allan Poe writes short stories chronologically and flashily.
