The Urban Transformation

The urban transformation has become a significant project which has affected our lives more and more. Although this project aims to develop housing conditions thanks to rebuilding and to prevent cities from crooked urbanization and a risk of earthquake, it is a momentous argument issue among some people especially in İstanbul because this transformation provides many disadvantages while it also provides advantages.

To begin with the advantages, urban transformation prevents cities from crooked urbanization by designing buildings' location, setting up the new sites, and resisting the fact that many more people settle wherever they want. In particular, in İstanbul amount of population density is already far more than 24 million and when people migrate to İstanbul from other cities, the amount of density goes up so it results in that crooked urbanization becomes a serious problem. Therefore, this urban transformation is a great solution to overcome this problem. In addition, in some regions housing conditions are not as developed as in the other regions and buildings are at a higher risk of earthquake due to İstanbul' s location, it is located on the Marmara Main Fault Line. So, if the buildings are constructed via urban transformation, they will have an edge over the others in terms of risk of earthquake because of the fact that rebuilding which is well-planned enables us to decline a risk of earthquake and to access advanced housing conditions. However, this is not the whole picture.

On the other hand, this transformation brings along many disadvantages. Firstly, as a result of the rebuilding, our environment has been damaged. That is because, dust, material used by the contractor, and even vehicles create disproportionate pollution during the construction. Also, owing to rebuilding, overpriced houses appear so that people whose buildings are bought for urban transformation cannot buy their houses when the rebuilding finishes. What's more, though people buy these buildings, their living space is smaller than before the transformation. That is because, they are cut off from facilities which provide them with a comfortable life. For this reason, this transformation restricts their opportunities created by the environment as well.

To conclude, urban transformation brings both advantages and disadvantages to our lives. In the light of all information that I have given, in my opinion, the disadvantages outweigh the advantages but this project may bring new occasions in the future. Who knows!
